The greater Southwest Austin region encompasses a large area with diverse neighborhoods ranging from the high-end Barton Creek to small urban neighborhoods like Maple Run and master-planned communities like Circle C. The highly sought-after Travis Country neighborhood and the laid-back Oak Hill area are also located in the Southwest quadrant of Austin. Along the western edge is an unincorporated area of the city known as the ETJ or Extra Territorial Jurisdiction, where buyers may find homes on larger acreages and a lower tax rate.

The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center is THE botanical garden in Central Texas. Run by the University of Texas at Austin, the Wildflower Center’s mission is to inspire the conservation of native plants. The center is open for walks year-round, hosts numerous events including weddings and helps educate Austin’s school children on the importance of native plants. Early Spring is the best time for a visit.
