Welcome to Southwest Austin
The greater Southwest Austin region encompasses a large area with diverse neighborhoods ranging from the high-end Barton Creek to small urban neighborhoods like Maple Run and master-planned communities like Circle C. The highly sought-after Travis Country neighborhood and the laid-back Oak Hill area are also located in the Southwest quadrant of Austin. Along the western edge is an unincorporated area of the city known as the ETJ or Extra Territorial Jurisdiction, where buyers may find homes on larger acreages and a lower tax rate.
What to Expect
With good schools, convenient shopping and a more suburban feel to many of the neighborhoods, Southwest Austin is home to a mix of young families, older residents and singles. Many areas in Southwest Austin are still well priced, making it a popular choice for first-time buyers, while the Barton Creek neighborhood offers upscale country-club living at its finest.
Though Southwest Austin is an easy commute to downtown and South Austin hotspots, it still gives off a mostly laid-back vibe. Residents can easily access the Barton Creek Greenbelt or enjoy vibrant local parks like the Dick Nichols Regional Park and Neighborhood Pool.
Great dining experiences don’t just happen downtown. With an eclectic mix of local eateries, chain restaurants and food trailer hot spots, there’s no need to go far to find a yummy meal.
